Have you ever felt like giving up or throwing in the towel?  Perhaps your life experiences have proven to be very difficult and every day that you live is a challenge just to stay alive and remain sane.  Or maybe some decisions that you have made in your life have come back to haunt you in enormous proportions and your life seems as though it’s about to be turned upside down.

Well, you are not alone.  At this time many of us are experiencing fiery trials and tests in our lives.  Instead of allowing despair to consume us we need to cry out to God as never before.

Psalm 61:1-2 (KJV) “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”  (Jesus Christ is that Rock.)

This particular scripture is just one of the prayers that David prayed to God when his heart was troubled.  In his lifetime David was faced with many obstacles.  Family members and even close friends came up against him.  In Psalm 55 David said it was not an enemy that reproached him then he would have been able to bear that.  In Psalm 41:9 David says it was his own familiar friend, in whom he trusted, which did eat of his bread that lifted up his heel against him.  There are numerous occasions in the Word of God where David faced difficult times but he knew that he could depend on the Lord to be his Helper.

To overwhelm means to cover over completely, to overpower in thought or feeling.  David was overwhelmed but he knew he could call on the Lord and receive help in his time of need.

When we allow our circumstances and situations to get the best of us we too become overwhelmed but we must not allow the difficult challenges that we are facing to have a greater presence in our lives than the Lord Jesus Christ.

No matter what you and I are experiencing in our lives God is concerned about it.  We are not going through these trials and tests alone.  The Lord is right there to help us and he wants us to cast all of our cares upon him for he cares for us.  That’s right, the Lord cares about you.

There is help for us greater than ourselves.  We need to cry out to God –lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.  That Rock is Jesus Christ.

There will be some circumstances in our lives that we just can’t change.  No amount of worrying, fretting or crying will do any good.  Knowing that these times will come we must take everything to the Lord in prayer.  God is well able to deliver us.

People of all ages are committing suicide-taking their own life because they have come to the conclusion that things are not getting any better for them (their heart is overwhelmed) therefore they feel or believe their life is not worth living.  I want you to know that is a lie from the devil.  Your life is worth living because Jesus Christ lives.  God created you for his good pleasure and he has an assignment for your life that you and you only can complete.

Don’t allow the pressures of life to continue to weigh you down.  Right here, right now ask the Lord to give you the strength and courage to endure through these tough times.

Please remember, this too shall and will pass.  Troubles don’t last always.

There is help and hope for all of us.  When our heart is overwhelmed we need to go to the Rock-Jesus Christ.  We can come boldly to the Lord knowing that we will obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Savior I encourage you to accept Jesus Christ into your heart.  Let’s pray:  Dear God, I realize without Jesus I am lost.  I believe according to your Word… That if I confess with my mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I shall be saved.  Jesus, I now invite you into my life and receive you by faith as my Lord and Savior.  I am sorry for my sins and I thank you for your forgiveness.  Thank you for saving me, in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
